How much space does it need with the footrest out?

With the footrest extended, the chair is close to the depth of a small sofa, and that length stays put, there's nothing to fold away. The runners also need clear floor behind them for the rocking arc. Best kept out of a walkway when extended.

How do I keep the teddy velvet looking good?

A soft brush along the pile, a vacuum with the brush head before dust settles into the loops, and a barely damp cloth on any marks rather than a wet one. The teddy pile may flatten where you sit, but a quick brush lifts it back.
